About Isadora’s Workshop
Isadora’s Workshop is artist Isabelle Desjeux‘s studio in Singapore. It offers art workshops for children as young as 5 up to adults, and also runs regular camps during school holidays, both local and international.
The workshop has been running for over 10 years in Singapore, starting as an after-school drawing club at the Canadian International School in 2002.
Since then, the workshop moved to Seletar Camp, where for a few years, children came for regular drawing lessons and holiday camps. Many of Isadora’s Worskhop‘s most famous camps were run there, from Mad Tea Party to Jungle Camp, Printmaking Camp, Book-making camp… Camps have always been flexible and the same camp would produce different outcomes depending on the children’s interest.
After Seletar Camp closed, the workshop moved to Upper Thomson, offering occasional classes and camps. Public classes for a general public were also developped. Isadora’s Workshop now offers schools such workshops as :
- 2-day introduction to printmaking,
- 2-day insect observe-and-make workshop,
- Drop-in Micro-Macro Drawing (Gesture drawing and microscope drawing),
- Fungus Fauna (looking and drawing fungus viewed down the microscope)
Since July 2012, Isadora’s Workshop has moved to the Blue House Village. In the process, it has become l’Observatoire, offering drawing classes focused on observing, as well as science-oriented camps. Our holiday camps still run 3 to 4 times a year, and we still offer weekly drawing classes for all levels. Additionally, the you can book your own workshop, choosing from all those different activities.
Drawing, printmaking, papier maché, book-making, are just some of Isabelle’s favorite techniques.Teaching the children some of the techniques and then giving them time to explore on their own, in a safe and non-judgemental environment is key to the workshops.
