I have worked with the STPI before, so it’s a real pleasure to be invited to run more kids workshops this year!

A Green, Optical Christmas tree this year.

 A great thank you to all of you, students, anonymous followers, random passer-bys, friendly commentators, for helping keep this page going by stopping by and sending friendly comments once in a while! The New Year promises some surprises ahead, which I will not reveal yet…

In the meantime, please enjoy my cheeky, green greetings using “optical inks”. Please follow the instructions carefully and ask a child if you aren’t sure… they will know!

1. Find a Christmas card you have just received, and which has a blank back page. Keep that blank page handy.

2. Look at the picture attached. Focus on the top third of the tree somewhere, and look for about 30 seconds.

3. Now, quickly turn to your blank page. Your Christmas card should appear with all the right colours! And you can re-use the card…

Last Workshops for the year: Cards Printing and Portrait Drawing

Saturday 3 December: Print your Christmas cards, a parent-child workshop.

• Using recycled milk and juice cartons, create plates that can be printed… and used to send season’s greetings.

  December 3, 2011, 9:15 – 11:15 am.  Make your own Greeting Cards, a parent/child workshop!

  Using the technique of etching on milk cartons, make delicate drawings that can be reproduced and displayed in front of a lighted candle.

  Timing: 9:15 am-11:15 am

  Age group:  5 – 14 year olds (young ones should be accompanied). Adults alone welcome.

December 5 – 9: Drawing portraits

• Learn to draw realistically using various tools and mediums (pencil, charcoal, watercolour and pastels). And learn to have fun and see beyond the lines on the surface to create a portrait with personality, reflecting both your personality and the sitter’s personality!

After one week, children produced sets of notebooks, a Tintin mini-series, concertina books and even a “TV”.

Things to come… T-shirts, Sculptures, Cinema, Holiday Program (finally)!

T-shirts, silk-screen printed and ready to be decorated.

Many things are happening this month!

• I have prepared the T-shirts above for a private party. These were silk-screened using my usual paper-silk-screen technique. The design is simple and the girls will spend some time decorating them using a mixture of textile markers and sparkly liners… I’ll post the result!
• Another party at the Museum. Remember that you can book your own party at the Singapore Art Museum!
• Opening on the 7th of June is 2 and 1/2 D Cinema at the Playdome. Make sure you come and visit – you have until the 26th of June. Buy a ticket to one of the shows and get unlimited entry to the exhibitions on that day. Or buy a season ticket and come visit often!
• Summer Program: 

all happening at 102 Gardenia Road in Sunny Singapore, at the edge of the McRitchie Reservoir!

Week 1:

Monday 27 June – Friday 1 July  Watercolors For children 5-14 years old. Daily, 9.30 am – 12.30 pm. Beginners welcome. We will learn some basics of drawing as well as how to “tame” the watercolor.  

Max. 8 children. Fees: $400, includes material (watercolor paper and paints, brush, folder… to bring home).

Week 2:

Monday 4 July – Friday 8 July Printmaking For children 7-14 years old. Daily 9.30am – 12.30 pm. Beginners or advanced. Beginners will be exposed to various techniques of relief printing, silk-screen printing and intaglio, using a real press. Advanced students will be supervised and inspired in their chosen project.

Max. 5 children. Fees: $500, includes material (plates, printmaking paper, inks… and a folder to bring the art home).
